Healthier and Fitter without going to the Gym
We would all like to improve our overall health and fitness levels, however make excuses that we don’t have the time or money to go to the gym or have a personal trainer. I have however put together this article to help you improve your health and fitness levels by simply making some adjustments to your everyday life.
1. CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE - The simplest way to improve your current health and fitness level is to make small adjustments to your everyday life. You firstly need to improve your diet and your daily exercise routine. These changes do not have to be dramatic, as small regular changes to your every day life do build up to large changes which do go a long way towards improving your health and fitness levels.
A simple and inexpensive way to change your eating habits is to try eating less takeout food. By even substituting one takeout meal a week with a home cooked meal, you will notice an improvement in your waist line and your pocket. Over time, you can slowly start increasing substituting takeout meals more frequently (ie. 2-3 times a week) and even start doing the same with your lunches. A home prepared salad for lunch with some fruit for snacks can sound small, but will help dramatically improve your health and fitness levels. Remember, have a nutritional low fat breakfast, as breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A bowl of cereal with low fat milk is perfect to kick-start your day.
The same applies to walking and being active. Rather than taking your car to drive to your local convenience store to pickup some milk or bread, walk there instead. Walking there will not only save on gas, but also help improve your overall health and fitness levels. The same does also apply when using escalators or elevators, take the stairs instead and you will notice that over time you will get better at this and find taking the stairs will get easier over time, all this because you fitness levels are improving. If you have a dog, take it for a brisk walk or go for a walk with your partner, friend or neighbour. This will not only help improve your relationship with them by talking 30 minutes during your walk, but you will also help improve both your health and fitness levels. As your fitness levels improve, you can go for longer walks and take on new challenges, such as walking up hills, etc.
2. PURCHASE FITNESS EQUIPMENT - Another obvious way to help improve your fitness levels is to purchase fitness equipment. Do some research before going out to buy such equipment, as you should purchase equipment that best suits your end results. If you wanted to go down the path of doing some walking and possibly running while watching television, a treadmill would be a great investment, however if you wanted to become a body builder, some form of weights should be considered. Feel free to speak to fitness store staff and get ideas on what could best be utilised for your end results and level of fitness. When looking for fitness equipment, look for sales and even buying second hand, as you can pick up some great bargains. I always preferred purchasing some fitness equipment instead of going to a gym, as I can always exercise when I like & not need to worry about paying the hefty gym fees, waiting in queues to use gym equipment and wasting your time and fuel getting there.
Remember, if you do purchase fitness equipment, they won’t do all the work for you. Fitness equipment will help improve your overall fitness level, however you do have to regularly make use of them to improve your overall fitness levels.
As you can see, there are plenty of options available to you if you want to improve your fitness levels without needing to go to the gym. You will however need to take the first step and make the lifestyle changes required to improve your overall fitness levels. Remember, the sooner you start the sooner you will achieve fitness level improvements.
